[Interview] Mr. Kim, let’s go for a hike this weekend.

Your Mission: Complete the 100km course in 38 hours with your boss!

Never has there been a challenge like this.
Office camaraderie is put to the test.

In a world where co-workers lost touch after moving on to other jobs,
Team Posco will earn bragging rights by displaying their amazing team chemistry

Q. Team intro please.
Hi, we’re “With POSCO Dream Coxfam” team, comprised of POSCO employees. We meshed key words like Cokes which represents our corporate motto and fuel as well as the name Oxfam. 3 of our members have taken part in the Oxfam Trailwalkers more than once. We have our youngest employee joining the team to make lasting memories together.

Q. Any special reason to form a team with your office colleagues?
We work in the same department and have become like family. We all love sporting activities like cycling, hiking and tennis, so everyone was eager to take part. In fact, it was difficult to tell enthusiastic volunteers, the team is full. The competition to make the cut was fierce! Our team leader Choi Il-chang conducted a very strict interview to decide on the 3 finalists. (No one was forced to take part, I swear.)

Q. Was it challenging to juggle work and training?
We’ve taken part together as the same team last year, so we have good chemistry and we are familiar with the preparations needed. We also understand each other’s duties at work, so we try to fill in for one another and help out so there’s time to train. From what I experienced, as long as you maintain a basic level of physical fitness, you can complete 100km in 38 hours. So we focused more on maintaining fitness or slightly improving our stamina instead of high intensity workouts.

Q. Any words of advice and encouragement to office workers having cold feet?
It’s not an easy task to make time and juggle one’s schedule to train and prepare. You might end up using your off days to train. But I think what keeps people back or have doubts about taking part is the uncertainty factor. You wonder if you can do it. I mean 100km is no joke. I saw it as daunting challenge as well. But fighting through doubts, making sacrifices to train together and complete the course. It all adds up and the experience you share, is like nothing else.

Q. What is Oxfam Trailwalker to you?  A chance to validate camaraderie!
It’s hard to meet someone that clicks with you, especially at work.Even if you find someone that has great chemistry with you, work keeps you apart, and there’s little time to get better acquainted. Oxfam Trailwalker is the perfect way to forge a stronger bond with your colleagues. The 100km can be a grueling test of endurance and teamwork, and in the end you’re doing something meaningful by helping those in need.

From POSCO, 5 teams are taking part in Oxfam Trailwalker this year.
Don’t get too cooped up in your cubicle!
Get out and test your mettle and show people what you’re made of!
